INTERACTION WITH FORMER NASA SCIENTIST

DAV-BHEL School, Ranipet organised an online interactive session with former NASA Scientist and Radar expert Dr. Piyush Shankar on 26/12/2020. He is an alumnus of our School. Students of classes 9 to 12 attended the session.

Profile of Dr. Piyush Shankar

  • He studied in our school from UKG to class 12.
  • He completed Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras with Governor's medal.
  • He did his MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, USA
  • He did his postdoctoral research at California Institute of Technology (Caltech), USA
  • He did his postdoctoral research at California Institute of Technology (Caltech), USA
  • He served as a Radar Engineer at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory from 2013 to 2020. He worked on the NASA-ISRO radar mission (NISAR) to be launched in 2023.
  • He works as a radar expert at Descartes Labs developing tools to use radar data from NASA, ISRO and ESA in near real time.

The session was highly motivating and interesting. He answered the queries of students connected with NASA, ISRO, Space technology and Radar technology. He gave valuable tips to prepare for board examinations and Entrance tests. He guided students regarding educational opportunities in reputed foreign institutions. Principal M Karuppiah delivered the welcome address.

Interaction with an IIT Topper

DAV-BHEL School started its career guidence and counselling activities of the new academic year with an interactive and motivational session on 26/06/2021(Saturday). Mr. Narendranath, Our alumnus and All India 16 th rank holder in IIT Entrance Examination, 2005 , interacted with the students of classes IX to XII.

He graduated in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Madras. At present, he is working as Quantitative Analyst in Rockos Capital Management, London. He motivated students to prepare for the challenging entrance examinations and shared a number of tips to do well in both board examination and entrance tests. He enlightened the listeners on the nature and scope of Computer Science in the present day World. He gave information regarding various educational and career opportunities available abroad. He could answer various questions raised by the students and teachers. Students and teachers from EKBS also attended the programme.

As Class XII students are ambitious but confused on what to pursue after class 12(Commerce), We are organising a physical meeting to interact with V. Vidhi (2019-2020 Batch).

  • Initiation of a scholarship program, through Arya Samaj Charitable Foundation, for D.A,V. Alumni Civil Service Aspirants (UPSC / TNPSC) in order to appreciate the efforts of our Alumni to take up UPSC / TNPSC as a way to serve the country.
  • A video conferencing session on ‘Supporting the community in a Post COVID World’ was held on 21st June, 2020. The session was organized by Mr. Srinivasa Gopal, Alumnus of DAV Gopalapuram - 1985 batch and team. Panelists included Ms. Dipa Swaminathan, Lawyer (Harvard Law School) & Founder - Its Raining Rain coats (A Singapore based NGO); Ms. Aarti Madhusudhan, Founder, ‘Governance Counts’ & Alumnus of TISS & NIMHANS; and three members from the Central Committee Members of DAV Department of Alumni Affairs (Dr. Preethy SP, Dr Krupa M & Mr. Arun Narayan). The session was moderated by Prof. C. Balaji Krishnan, University of Memphis & Alumnus of DAV Gopalapuram – 1985.
  • Formation of Career Guidance Volunteers Team with several alumni from the batches of 1980s to 2010s with well accomplished professional backgrounds and journeys, to provide mentorship for 2019 and 2020 batch alumni. Fourteen alumni from 2020 and 2019 batches reached out to DAA through the helpline number provided, requesting guidance for choosing streams and colleges in Engineering, Medical and Paramedical courses.
